A detour and extension on my ride home from work took me through some of the backstreets of the suburb around Chadstone shopping centre... the suburb no longer called Chadstone due to changing boundaries. Hardly saw anything living on the way home, a few shrieks from the trees along the creek, some distant blobs in the wetlands, but nothing much to say. Then riding along one of the last streets before Chadstone road I found the ground carpetted with leaves, twigs and the seed pods of the street trees. First thought was that a tall truck had ripped them out and then I heard and saw them, a huge flock of Little corellas[1] feeding and squabbling in the trees, ripping the pods off them -- no idea what the tree is, a deciduous European of some sort, but clearly attractive to the birds!
