Something different today as a result of spending a few hours gardening, trying to cut back some of runaway grass that has morphed from lawn a knee-high matt along the fence. A small skink sat eyeing me, sunning itself on the timbers of fence -- sadly, missing the last centimetre or two of its tail, probably due to the local cats. Unsure what species, a common garden skink[1] I suspect
Then sadly, five minutes later I discovered that I'd managed to kill a different skink with the blades of the garden shears while cutting down the grass, a much lighter coloured striped skink with a coppery coloured tail lying dead on the grass.
They've got enough to cope with from all the local cats slaughtering
them, they don't need me helping.
