Who i am, why i am here, why under this domain, and some other information that i might come up with while writing this.
I'm Kai (he/they), i like tech, biology, spacetravel, and occasionally analog photography. I got into this Linux/FOSS/tech space in my mid teens, as far as i recall i have been using Linux and occasionally BSD since about 2015, starting, like many, with Linux Mint (one of the versions that had the steampunk lockscreen as an option, if anyone remembers that), since then i have probably tried more distros and operating systems that i have appendages to count them on, and used a multitude of them for extended periods of time, but my in recent times is mostly ended up on Arch or Debian. I have some experience with hydroponic indoor gardening through growing excessive amounts of basil and some slightly misshapen peppers.
My first contacts with Gopher were probably in 2018, at least that's when i remember first using sdf and looking at the phlogs over there and what people were doing with them, but that was about it, i never published anything on gopher, probably because i was even more uninteresting than i am now, and busy with school.I first discovered gemini through Drew DeVaults blog, though i couldn't tell you when that was besides probably being either 2019 or 2020, some time after that i first read the FAQ and the spec, and maybe looked at gemini and gopher every few months, nearly forgetting them inbetween. What actually nudged me towards looking at gemini more, and even host my own capsule, was the interview with Solene in BSD Now 435, from which i discovered her blog, and since that covered gemini sometimes it got me interested enough again to give it a try. Besides that i also wanted to try my hand at writing some more, both to just type more (since i am normally i fairly passive computer user), and to get stuff that would normally at most turn into a reddit post, like the Thinkpad 600x adventures, onto a more interesting medium that i have full controll over (and sucks less ass than reddit). Also, this is an attempt at getting more text into my "internet diet".
i wanted to be one of the cool kids™ with a .space adress and, since many of the ones that actually form a reasonable string of words that i could think of were already taken, i was looking around for inspiration and ended up looking down at my feet, and then the idea was there.
