Yesterday was the day Elon Musk bought Twitter. It seems that the shareholders wanted the money, so there was the deal.
Since the news came out, and, as other times, a bunch of people went to refugee on Mastodon because well, Mastodon is free from corporate hands, and Mastodon is federated.
But I kept thinking. Is the fact of Twitter being owned by Elon Musk that bad? Let me put it more precisely: Is now Twitter a worse place than it was before due to the fact of being owned by a multimillionaire?
The fact is that if you move to Mastodon, little will change on Twitter as a platform. At most, the changes will be on your experience with the new platform, which I bet will be better than Twitter, whose algorythms are out of your control.
But at the end of the day, you are "just" changing platforms. Followers, links, likes, images, memes, I bet they are still to be found on Mastodon.
Maybe, just maybe, what's wrong is not the owner of the platform, but the sole idea of the microblogging platform? You will be still chasing likes, following hashtags, replying to people, engaging in discussions online, and well, procastinating and wasting your time online. And, let's admit it, microblogging is a terrible way of comunicating, just remember the horrible twitter threads.
Because after all, as Ploum's put it in
great explanation on Gemini's essence
