A new garda premises is to open on O'Connell Street in Dublin as part of an effort to cut down on anti-social behaviour and drug dealing in the city centre.
The location, 13A O'Connell Street, was previously a Citizen's Information Office.
Announcing the move, Minister for Justice Helen McEntee said it was about increasing An Garda SÃochána's presence in town.
Two garda initiatives, Operation Citizen and Operation Spire, will be run from the new premises, which will focus on reducing public disorder, assaults and other crimes in the city centre.
The minister told Fine Gael colleagues last night that it is hoped the premises, which may also house a victim support unit, will open in the coming months.
Work is currently ongoing on the premises to install the necessary technological infrastructure, as well as other refurbishments.
Earlier this month, the Office of Public Works lodged a change of use application with Dublin City Council.
An Garda SÃochána said it would not be commenting at this time.
Fine Gael TDs and senators were also told last night that Garda Operation Irene, which aims to combat underage drinking, will begin on 1 June.
