A prison officer at Mountjoy Prison was taken to hospital after she was attacked and cut with a homemade knife.
A row broke out among ten prisoners on one of the prison's wings yesterday afternoon and officers went to the scene.
The female officer was kicked and slashed with the homemade weapon, known as a shiv.
The Prison Officers' Association believe attacks on officers could be avoided with safer management systems in place.
