It's been a minute
Alright, so about that whole 'blog writing as a vehicle for forming habits' thing... clearly, this year has gotten off the rails already albiet mostly in a good way. For reasons I'm (strangely) not super comfortable publishing on the smol (or large) web, life has been busy. But I think that finding time to write during these busy periods will yield more insightful and fascinating readings in the hopefully not too distant future where I get to take a minute, take a breath, and read back some of these posts. That is, if any of this can be considered insightful or fascinating ~ at all ~. I guess dull reflection is still better than no reflection at all! That said, some brief musings and thoughts
- SpaceVim is great - I had planned on writing an entire post on the batteries-attached, sensible defaults value prop of software like SpaceVim or Rails. Alas, that post hasn't yet materialized. Until then, just know that getting up and running with SpaceVim has been a delight, and I appreciate an opinionated entryway into vim.
- Jellyfin is great, although my aged mac mini media computer and my apartment's faulty electrical service are both conspiring against keeping the server online. As ridiculous as it sounds, it felt nice knowing I had a ~ plan b ~ to fall back on when Spotify went down globally for half a day this week. I guess plan c would be all the records I keep compulsively buying.
- Spending my working days increasingly entrenched in computers has lead me to appreciate my non-screen time even more. Earlier this month we spent a week in Joshua Tree. The weather was historically bad, but the ability to unplug for the week made the trip a net positive. The hot tub didn't hurt either.
- We've started poking our heads back out into the world as Chicago lifts its remaining mask mandates. We had a nice meal in a restaurant, and it almost felt normal!
- I need to expand my pantry staples a bit. Last night after staring down a $30 delivery dessert order I decided to instead make cookies - they definitely scratched the itch, but I wonder what I'd make if I added a handful of things to the 'always on hand' list.
We should do this again, maybe let's not wait a month ;)
