Moving more to the small internet

This is a short post both announcing that I want to use this space for more than just long, big chunky essays, and also explain a little bit about why.

So I've been trying to straddle worlds for awhile, spending time both on the small internet and on big social media---mostly twitter.

There's a lot of old friends, cool opportunities, and good artists on twitter but there's also just *noise*. It's not even about people necessarily saying asinine things, although there's plenty of that too. I mean that even when people aren't offbase there's still just an overwhelming amount of people processing their emotions in real time or feeling pressured to take stances on what's just happened or dunking on dumb shit that some asshole said.

It's such bad noise. It fills my head and I generally end up feeling like it's eating up my executive function by just taking up too much space. So I'm trying to make it even more of a sometimes food and move more of my interactions and sociality to the small internet.

Reading everyone's phlogs/gemlogs/essays ends up being the opposite of the noise. Not just because the traffic is lower but because the content is longer, less hurried, less frantic. Instead of feeling frustrated I feel like I'm connecting with people, getting a sense of how they see the world. It's what I need right now while I'm pushing myself hard in so many areas.

So, yeah, I'll probably be spending a lot more time here on the small internet and I hope I'll be able to talk to more people.
