RSS Feed Reader Is Superior

Just a simple comparison.

RSS feed reader

+ function: to provide information

+ user-generated feeds

+ unlimited feeds from various platforms/sources

+ lightweight protocol

+ FOSS clients available

+ clients can't be censored, only sources

+ visual customization possible

+ feed refresh rates decided by user

+ tagging/categories possible

+ no ads & no tracking

3rd party feeds (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)

- function: to maximize screen time -> addiction

- algorithm-driven feeds

- one feed provided by platform (no external feeds)

- complex protocols

- clients very likely not FOSS

- prone to shadowbanning and censorship

- very little or no client customization

- refresh rate decided by service provider

- possibly no tagging/caregories

- ads & tracking by default

Summary

RSS isn't harder than social media. Everybody can copypaste an URL address to RSS feed reader. On the contrary, social media (3rd party) feeds are difficult. By default, you don't see what you want, because of algorithm. You have to find out what you have already been "following". You have to create accounts and remember passwords. You have to setup your privacy settings. TOS/rules may change all the time. And so on... Indeed, social media feeds are far more difficult than RSS feeds!
