New year. I feel like my two weeks of vacation has passed by entirely too quickly; I could use another two weeks.
Got a surprise car bill this week (needed brake pads and rotors replaced) so that wasn't fun. Also, my car had to be in the shop overnight; it's weird going from not having a car for years to not being happy when it's not around.
Academy starts in just under three weeks, with orientation night in two weeks. Really not sure how this is going to work out, but I guess I'll take it one day at a time.
Working through BYOL is a lot of fun, with a few frustrating parts. There's just this certain << je ne sais quois >> excitment about writing a lisp, like marking out a territory for yourself for you to build and do with as you see fit. It's exciting to have used it to learn how to implement a hash table, and I'm looking forward to learning about garbage collection and all the other things I don't yet know I'm going to learn. Also, a nice project to slowly chip away at. I think with the academy that's going to be the norm.
I've been getting rid of stuff slowly but surely, and one of the things I've been thinking about: which computer books do I keep, especially if I don't think I'm going to stay in tech for much longer?
So far, the list includes
The stuff on the list is just stuff I haven't gotten around to figuring out one way or another, mostly. I don't know if I'll keep many of my AI books, for example. I have a lot of ebook versions of stuff, and while it's suboptimal for reading, it's still probably doable.
Gotta get more cleaning done, and I gotta figure out the kaypro disk drive stuff too I think (I got a box of some of the parts I'll need from SFE yesterday).
Speaking of which, I'd *really* hoped my RC2014 would have shown up so I could assemble it during my break; I might not have time coming up, which is kind of disappointing. I kind of figured that'd be a risk.
