Back to gemlog

Simple subscriptions

Now listening: Gunship - Shadow Fury - Gunship

I just read about the simple gemini feeds system, and added some very basic support to my gemini go library.

This also comes with a tool to generate a latest feeds page. There's a few gemlogs I wanted to fetch but couldn't:

Right now I'm manually generating it until I figure out how to get the CGI version working (it might be up by the time you read this[a], who knows). I know gemserv supports it, just gotta work it out.

I totally forgot I was going to try updating my OpenBSD servers this weekend; they're laughably out of date because I hate doing sysadmin work. Also need to work out the mesh network servering stuff I think I mentioned in a previous entry. The problem is that because I stare at screens all day at work, I'm not real keen on staring at them outside of work. I really just want to be out in the forest doing... forest things.

I think I'm gonna buy a Kaypro 4 though. Found one reasonably priced with possibly local pickup. I can't believe I'm gonna do it...

Also yesterday I started a new batch of mead. Unlike the other meads I've done, I very much just winged this one. No SG measurements, no tracking (except to remember that I started it 2020-11-28), etc. I left the honeycomb in and I have no idea if that will affect anything but we'll see. Once I do the first racking, I'll probably add in some crushed juniper berries and pine shoots.

About 2/3 of the way done with The Algebraist, pretty good read so far. I like the idea of the treasure they're searching for as being some kind of maths.

On a side note, after a week of keeping a gemlog, I think the hardest thing for me to remember is not formatting each line (e.g. with `fmt -w 72`). I'm using mg(1) for editing and it doesn't really wrap lines around; also, reflexive habit of manually breaking and/or hitting ESC-q isn't helping. Still, so far so good. I like the simple nature of gemlogs and the focus on just writing. I think soon I'm going to write a gemlog generator to replace gloggery because I don't like how it does things. In fact, once I get done with this entry and maybe doing a cursory investigation of the CGI thing, I'll start writing one. Gods know I haven't done anything else this long weekend really; I kind of enjoyed not having anything to do and just being able to sleep a lot, which I won't be able to do when "school" starts up in January.

[a] which is a joke because I don't think anyone reads this, not really sure yet how to get involved in the community.
