introducing /img/, the image board

(featuring lena)

only on /img/ will you have the ability to post image threads and, optionally, image replies. the post links are next to or have replaced the existing post links. you can use the token field to provide a comment with the image post if you want.

serving images over what should be a low bandwidth protocol seemed against the spirit so i decided uploads should be dithered and compressed when saved. this has a couple nice side effects like not needing as much server storage space or bandwidth and probably not being used as a general image hosting service. i also personally think the dithered aesthetic makes it charming and complements gemini well.

IIch uses titan for uploads. the gemini client i use, lagrange, has titan support built in and makes posting images rather simple. i'm not sure how widespread titan support is but hopefully it will continue to increase.

let me know if you experience any issues with image posting here

I am a fan of the compression and dithering aesthetic.

it wasn't too clear from the landing page which image posts were replies to what so i changed image-only post content there to "[Image reply in: <thread>]"

new image threads now also require a comment using the token field when uploading since "[Image reply in: [Image]]" would also not be helpful

This is genuinely very cool, and very much in the spirit of gemini. nice work!
