I have a very simple single speed bike that I ride almost every day, all year around.
Sadly, after about 7000 kilometers (and 5 years) the cog on the rear wheel was completely worn out.
I'm a bit lazy to do any maintenance to begin with: part of the reason why I have such a simple bike. However this was something that just had to be done.
I required and aquired:
Bad luck stroke when I was trying to open the 'cassette': the thing that holds the rear cog in place. So the damn tool I had for the job would not fit, because the back axle on my bike is not standard.
After facepalming for a while and cursing the bike tooling in general, I decided to go to a near by bike repair shop for some help.
Thankfully the people there are super friendly, and they didn't even charge me for this small job.
With that out of the way I could do the rest myself.
And the bike is now rideable again.
