2022-01-07: Miscellanous cribs

It's been a long since I last did anything Cicada-related. Had no time for that since November, probably won't have a lot of time starting next week too.

Ideas for cribs

One of the ways to go about decrypting is trying to figure out a key pattern via "cribbing": trying to make an educated guess about what some portion of cleartext could be. Many of the cribs are my own, most though are found through searching the community archives. I don't attribute cribs because it's never easy to know whose original idea a crib was. If you want your crib attributed or removed, please let me know.

35dots_2: "the circumference"

On page #72 (#55), LP sentence #174, there are these runes: "ᚹᚱ ᛒᛠᚠᛉᛁᛗᚢᚳᛈᚻᛝᛚᛇ" ("wr beafximucphngleo"). It is widely speculated that these can mean "the circumference", because it's the only (?) combination of runes with a fitting length.

It must be pointed out that the 35dots_2 section consists of 2 pages and 64 words apart from the red title. This section also doesn't have any punctuation marks, so there's a theory that this section is, in fact, a list of words. My own understanding is that the "low doublets" could as well not apply to this section.

Cribbed key sequence is as follows:

w 7	 (! 5	c	/	24	a) 	=> th 2
r 4	 (! 15	s	/	14	x) 	=> e 18

b 17	 (! 12	eo	/	17	b) 	=> c 5
ea 28	 (! 18	e	/	11	j) 	=> i 10
f 0	 (! 25	ae	/	4	r) 	=> r 4
x 14	 (! 9	n	/	20	l) 	=> c 5
i 10	 (! 9	n	/	20	l) 	=> u 1
m 19	 (! 0	f	/	0	f) 	=> m 19
u 1	 (! 1	u	/	28	ea) 	=> f 0
c 5	 (! 16	t	/	13	p) 	=> e 18
p 13	 (! 9	n	/	20	l) 	=> r 4
h 8	 (! 19	m	/	10	i) 	=> e 18
ng 21	 (! 12	eo	/	17	b) 	=> n 9
l 20	 (! 15	s	/	14	x) 	=> c 5
eo 12	 (! 23	d	/	6	g) 	=> e 18

If this prominent phrase - the circumference - has a place here, then could this section be a kind of a glossary? In fact...

35dots_2: "a glossary" and other variants

...could the red header of this section just read "a glossary"?

On page #71 (#54), LP sentence #173, the red header is "ᚪ ᛗᛝᛞᛡᚦᛉᛁᛗ" ("a mngdiothxim"). It is understood that the rune "a" is, coincindentally perhaps, translated to an actual "a". (This is not 100%: could be a weird instance of "o", or it could be an "I", but I think we can neglect these possibilities).

The nature of this section was described before, so there were a lot of variants of the header crib proposed, such as:

Cribbed sequence for "a glossary":

a 24	 (! 0	f	/	0	f) 	=> a 24

m 19	 (! 13	p	/	16	t) 	=> g 6
ng 21	 (! 1	u	/	28	ea) 	=> l 20
d 23	 (! 20	l	/	9	n) 	=> o 3
io 27	 (! 12	eo	/	17	b) 	=> s 15
th 2	 (! 16	t	/	13	p) 	=> s 15
x 14	 (! 19	m	/	10	i) 	=> a 24
i 10	 (! 6	g	/	23	d) 	=> r 4
m 19	 (! 22	oe	/	7	w) 	=> y 26

35dots_1: "he answered"

On page #60 (#43), LP sentence #142, the first line contains a closing quotation mark. This quotation mark, in fact, ends a sequence of two consecutive quotation, which could be interpreted as a dialogue (perhaps, between the Master and the Pilgrim)?

After this quotation mark, at the beginning of the second line of the page, there are words "ᚠᚢ ᛉᚠᚫᛞᚠᛡᛄᚾ" ("fu xfaedfiojn"). I suspect that the only phrase which fits into this situation is "he answered". I think, it's either an exchange where a Pilgrim asked something from the Master, and he replied - or vice versa.

Cribbed sequence for "he answered":

f 0	 (! 21	ng	/	8	h) 	=> h 8
u 1	 (! 12	eo	/	17	b) 	=> e 18

x 14	 (! 19	m	/	10	i) 	=> a 24
f 0	 (! 20	l	/	9	n) 	=> n 9
ae 25	 (! 10	i	/	19	m) 	=> s 15
d 23	 (! 16	t	/	13	p) 	=> w 7
f 0	 (! 11	j	/	18	e) 	=> e 18
io 27	 (! 23	d	/	6	g) 	=> r 4
j 11	 (! 22	oe	/	7	w) 	=> e 18
n 9	 (! 15	s	/	14	x) 	=> d 23

trees_1: "keep prime" or similar

This one I think I can safely attribute to Fib.

On page #32 (#15), LP sentence #55, there's this title to the fibprime spiral table: "ᚠᚢᛚᛗ ᚪᛠᚤᛟᚪ" ("fulm aeayoea").

It could mean a lot, but there surfaced an idea that it could mean "keep prime" or "make prime" or something like that, which make sense considering the table below this title actually has a lot to do with primes.

(You can read more on this table on Wiki, or in this article by me)

Cribbed sequence for "keep prime":

f 0	 (! 24	a	/	5	c) 	=> c 5
u 1	 (! 12	eo	/	17	b) 	=> e 18
l 20	 (! 2	th	/	27	io) 	=> e 18
m 19	 (! 6	g	/	23	d) 	=> p 13

a 24	 (! 11	j	/	18	e) 	=> p 13
ea 28	 (! 24	a	/	5	c) 	=> r 4
y 26	 (! 16	t	/	13	p) 	=> i 10
oe 22	 (! 3	o	/	26	y) 	=> m 19
a 24	 (! 6	g	/	23	d) 	=> e 18

I will add more cribs as time goes and I remember or find something.

35dots_1: "to binary"

I heard this one from V1cWra1th.

On page #66 (#49), the two final words preceding the sexagesimal table, are these: "ᚪᚤ ᛟᛇᚹᛄᛈᛞ" ("ay oeeowjpd"). It actually makes huge sense if they meant "to binary", because the next data dump consists of 256 bytes that could be converted to values 0-255.

Cribbed sequence for "to binary":

a 24	 (! 8	h	/	21	ng) 	=> t 16
y 26	 (! 23	d	/	6	g) 	=> o 3

oe 22	 (! 5	c	/	24	a) 	=> b 17
eo 12	 (! 2	th	/	27	io) 	=> i 10
w 7	 (! 27	io	/	2	th) 	=> n 9
j 11	 (! 16	t	/	13	p) 	=> a 24
p 13	 (! 9	n	/	20	l) 	=> r 4
d 23	 (! 26	y	/	3	o) 	=> y 26

This could also be "as binary". But, as a downside, I as of now fail to find appropriate words that could precede this phrase.
