Brown Thomas opens €12m Dundrum shop

Thursday, 24 Feb 2022 16:02

Brown Thomas has opened a new shop in Dundrum Town Centre, following a €12m investment by the luxury retail group.

The 62,000 square foot outlet takes up much of the space vacated by House of Fraser, which pulled out of the centre in early 2020.

The new Brown Thomas shop will employ around 400 people, however the group has also closed its BT2 branch in Dundrum as part of the move.

Brown Thomas Arnotts describes the new shop as an "innovative" retail experience, with a particular focus on sustainability.

This includes fashion rental options, trade-ins for handbags and repair options for certain accessories.

The shop will also include beauty and tech sections, as well as a separate space that can be booked for private shopping.

"The store builds on the extraordinary customer experience that Brown Thomas is renowned for, combining an unrivalled offer with innovative services for our customers to enjoy," said Brown Thomas Arnotts' managing director Donald McDonald.

"We're very proud to have developed our new Dundrum store through local Irish collaboration from the ground up, in the design, sustainable build and operations of the store," he said.

"We are proud to deliver this latest retail experience in Dublin that combines the latest emerging trends in experiential retail together with the most luxurious brands," said Anne Pitcher, managing director of Selfridges Group.

"It underscores our belief that there is strong customer appetite and a bright future for a luxurious physical retail environment as part of a signature customer experience."

In December it was announced that Selfridges Group, which owns Brown Thomas and Arnotts in Ireland, would be acquired by a Thai and Austrian consortium as part of a €4.7 billion deal.

Family-owned retail group Central and real estate group Signa are to acquire the business, which also includes the Selfridges chain, from Canada’s Weston family, which has owned the group since 2003.
