Woman dies following collision in Dún Laoghaire

A woman in her early 70s has died following a collision in Dún Laoghaire in south Dublin.

It is understood the woman died after she was hit by a truck at Myrtle Square at around 10am.

The recently created plaza sits between the Bloomfield Shopping Centre and St Michael's Hospital.

The man driving the truck and his passenger were said to be in shock and treated at the scene.

George's Street Lower in Dún Laoghaire is closed following the incident.

The woman's body has been removed to St Columcille's Hospital, Loughlinstown for a post-mortem examination.

She has been described as a grandmother from the local area.

Staff from the shopping centre had gathered outside after a fire alarm went off.

They were right beside the scene of the collision when it happened. Many are said to have been traumatised.
