Midnight Pub

How It All Started

~contrarian

The nestled piece of paper was not meant for someone like me. Probably. I was just searching the archives for mentions of somebody called Terra Aeon and came across it in some records of hnblogs. Of course I was familiar with HN but generally steered clear of reading it just as I did with anything relating to money. Probably why I'm no good with that either. The piece of paper slipped into those records was some kind of an invitation with contact info written in a strange hand only barely decipherable.

Somehow I ended up in the undercity in front of a small brick pub with a door slightly rusted. The Midnight part of the neon sign glowed as it was raining. The Pub part was out. I took out the scrap of paper I had written the passcode I had been given to reassure myself I had it memorized one last time before knocking. The bouncer slid the little window in the metal door open to challenge me. Some faint music could be heard which I recognized and took as a good sign. Satisfied, the heavy door swung inwards...

The words "passcode I had been given" suggests to this reader the 'somehow' part being rooted in a generous human-in-the-know - coaxing back fond memories of having somehow been deemed worthy of inclusion.

And in that vein, I'm pretty sure we all know whose direction to raise our glasses in.

Welcome to the pub, contrarian! No matter how you found your way here, what's important is that you got inside. I mean, the weather is pretty terrible outside and believe it or not, there are quite a lot of opossums in the small alley. Anyway, what brings you here?
