Poplifugia literally means "the people's flight" and is the only holiday of such importance in the entire year to be celebrated before the Nones.
This most ancient ritual was so old that it was not fully understood by the Romans of the historic period. Apparently, the powers that were released this month were so fearful that the citizens had to flee. The ritual connected with the Poplifugia took place on the Field of Mars, traditionally associated wit the military and aggressive action.
