Gemini, day 8

Disconnecting entirely for a day was the best gift I could have given myself, one week into Geminispace. I claim to be perpetually busy -- and this is unfortunately even more true than I let on -- and yet all of that busyness is tied to my computers.

With the laptops and phone tucked away, miraculously I could find four hours to walk around, or hours to read an honest-to-goodness dead tree book. I won't pretend I _didn't_ open CAPCOM and catch up here shortly after sunset ~~shimmer~~, but somehow next to the nature the screen just doesn't seem all that impressive. It's a good change of pace, one I hope to keep up for the future. I do need connectivity during the week, but I can spare one day to just exist. I'm nervous that the routine will be far harder to maintain once winter prohibits outdoor activities, but this is "Gemini, day 8", and that will be *at least* "Gemini, day 25"'s problem.

Today did make it painfully clear I don't own enough books. Pre-pandemic I relied on academic and public libraries, both of which experienced closures as fallout of the shutdown, although I think the latter should be open if I can figure out how to open a library card. That's a yak to shave another day.

This post contains no profound insights but I've established this gemlog as updating daily, so I have no choice but to embellish some words here to satiate your literary demands.

As for tomorrow, I hope to, er, keep doing what I had been doing? I don't know, I thoroughly enjoyed today but it did disrupt my usual Saturday routine of guilty Internet binging, instant messaging, and existentialism. I don't like breaking routines even if I hate them, alright?

But hey, here's to next Saturday.
