Amburbium: Moveable Ritual Ides February to Kalends March

The Amburbium was a ritual to purify the city of Rome and all that lied within. This festival was an urban counterpart to the rural purification rituals. As a solemn procession of worshipers encircled the city boundaries, they chanted prayers and offered sacrifices. By this lustration(purging/purification), everything inside the limits of the ancient city of Rome was made pure.

No exact date is recorded for this ritual and it may have been performed as a "crisis rite" when needed. As it does not appear on any of the ancient calendars, it is assumed to be one of the *feriae conceptivae*, a moveable feast.

February is a quiet month of coming to terms with the past and purifying ourselves through ritual. These publicly celebrated purification rites brought closure to the preparatory period. Once they were completed at the end of February, all was in order. All was purified and made receptive for the coming new year in March.
