Die Zauberflte (The Magic Flute) Music by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder First performance: September 30, 1791 at the Theater auf der Wieden, Vienna, under the direction of the composer. ============================================================= One of my long-term projects was to sequence and score the entire "Zauberflte" for the electronic medium. The first pass is complete, and the entire opera is now available for download. I've slightly departed from convention by putting the cello/basso staves immediately after the viola staff, making the vocal staff(s) a bit easier to read by having them all at the bottom of each system. For compactness, the score is presented in a relatively small font (12 point), making it primarily of interest as a "study score." Even so, it requires A4 or legal-sized paper to print, allowing at least two systems per page. Hint to North American users: You can get an acceptable reduction to letter-size paper by following the instructions in the GMD "Introduction" page to insert reduction commands into the PostScript files. Alternately (and perhaps more easily) you can load the files into GSview, set "Media" to A4, and use the File --> Print command to create a PDF file. Use the pdfwrite device, check the "Print to File" box. Then load the resulting .pdf file into Adobe Acrobat Reader V3.0 or later, and use its "Shrink to fit" option to reduce to letter-size paper. My interpretation in the form of a midi-file is also provided for study purposes. Please note: at least 32- note polyphony is required, and to improve realism the strings are doubled on two separate tracks, for a total of 19 tracks on 15 channels. At least an AWE32 or similar sound card is required to adequately read this midi. A Yamaha XG synthesizer or soundcard is recommended for best results. Hint to XG owners: You can get substantially improved realism by setting reverb to 60 (Hall 2) and Chorus to 40 (Celeste 1).
