I tuned in to Polygon's 56-hour-long charity stream for The Innocence Project all weekend, and needed some continued company/background noise after it had wrapped up. I selected the Bob Ross weekend marathon on a whim as I curled up with a recent casual/comfort playthrough of Stardew Valley, and had the personal galaxy-brained revelation that the two are perfect together. His repeated encouragements across multiple episodes buoyed up as I played.
"Just let it go."
"As long as it makes you happy."
"This canvas is your own world."
This is the kinda stuff we all need to hear when we have passions, hobbies, interests under capitalism. You don't need to produce. It's enough if something makes you happy.
A couple of more-specific quotes that caught my ear enough to jot down, perhaps sloppily and inacurrately transcribed.
As Bob Ross is painting a barn and pondering what the life of its farmer might be like:
He hasn't been keeping his weeds mowed. Nature's about to reclaim this one.
Bob Ross paints a forest/river retreat:
I spend a lot of time walking around alone in the woods. And I hunt: I hunt with a camera. I'm a bit of a softy. I could never kill ol' Bambi.
Put some Bob Ross on in the background and remember that enjoying what you love is enough.

Later in the evening I put a lesser-known stream of the new Cyberpunk 2077 game on in the background, and had my second personal galaxy-brained revelation when I muted the sounds of violence and middling industrial-techno, and put on Fornax Void's Cyberspace Database instead.
https://fornaxvoid.bandcamp.com/album/cyberspace-database
Fornax Void is an overlooked and underappreciated artist working in multiple mediums. Cyberspace Database is an expansive album of pleasing ambient cyberpunk music. For fans of soundtracks Star Trek: TNG, X-Files, Unreal, and Blade Runner, a sort of continuation and evolution of these, with innovative sounds on some older under-explored digital and analog synthesizers.
During the Polygon stream someone in the chat commented, "If you decide to play Cyberpunk 2077, please donate to trans charities as recompense," which is a simple sentiment that I heartily agree with. It feels wrong to link to Twitter from within geminispace, but: even better than purchasing and playing Cyberpunk 2077 is this comprehensive thread and list of "neon future without the transphobia and crunch", compiled by Everest Pipkin. Everest has a number of fantastic projects and recent threads that I will most certainly include in future posts here.
