By training and official education I am a programmer.
But something about it had led to me kind of hating doing so for a long time.
I'm the kind of person who needs to love what they do, and really feel like
their efforts are making a difference, in order to actually emotionally
invest time and energy into it.
And for a long time my work felt pointless.
There came a time where I decided to make some changes in my lifestyle.
Blame COVID-19, blame whatever you want. I wanted to change.
And I started by trying to learn how to love programming again.
I'm doing this still, every day, by working on things that I actually feel
passionate and interested in. Be that a little CLI game, or something with
some more meat on its' bones and a bigger to-do list stretched out over
a longer-term roadmap.
So far I've got two different things to show for it and another one that's
still being worked on.
Asparagus, a Python gembrowser
Pystermind, a mastermind clone
ALPHA, a Battletech hit calculator
I've been able to bang these out on a mixture of my old Lenovo laptop and my
iPad. It's wonderful that there are so many different ways to create something
that can run on multiple platforms nowadays.
And I've loved every minute of making these little projects. I'm realizing
why I got into this mad little job field in the first place.
Catch you next time,
