I got my first set of true wireless earbuds recently, the Creative Outlier Air v2. They've been a pretty good set of earbuds so far, a little weak in the bass department, but the treble and mids really shine on these. What can you really expect with earbuds barely bigger than your thumb, yet still packing in the transcever, drivers, microphones, _and_ batteries. Modern tech is so cool.
Something to note about these is that they seal _really_ well. Almost too well, kinda like a set of earplugs, they almost isolate like earplugs too. Some things that these lack from other uhh... comparable models are active noise cancelation, wireless charging, and passthrough. It makes them a simpler set which I like, though I would really like to have the passthrough feature.
I've been looking into getting a set of open back cans, for a bit of a different flavour than I'm used to as I've only ever owned closed back headphones (HyperX Cloud Alpha and V-Moda Crossfade 2 Codex, incase you were curious). It's to my understanding that they're kind of fun and with the right set you can sorta forget that they're there. The set I've been eyeing for a bit now are the beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro cause people say that they're a really comfy and lightweight pair of 'phones though many also say that they're on the sharper side, but jokes on them, I like that. I should even be able to drive the 250 ohm version with my current kit, cause apparently my soundcard can drive 600 ohms.
o-o As I've been researching while I write, I've come across the "DT 880 Edition" for just a little more than the DT 990's. Ugh... I was looking at the DT 880 Pro but dismissed it cause it was so much more expensive. Dunno what to choose now. Pesky beyerdynamic with their absolutely huge range but only having like 4 base names. Those do run at 600 ohms though, so I doubt my soundcard could drive them super well. I only trust Creative's claims up to a point (about 300 ohms :p).
I'd just get a pair of HurrDurr6hundies by ol mate Sennie, I've heard many _many_ good things about them, but they're expensive, and that obnoxious two wire design ughh. Absolutely drives me nuts that Sennie's mid range kit is all like "oooohhh two wires that lead to the drivers for more tangle and twist action" and you have to go the lowish (who am I kidding, even at the 598/599 it's still pretty damn good) end stuff to get sensable wiring.
Iffin anybody knows a good amp company other than Fiio and Schiit, hmu. I just don't know where to look and pretty much everything I've seen other than products by those two or products that cost like 5x as much look like hot garbage. Admittidly I haven't done much research cause my soundcard should be able to drive most anything I can throw at it.
Final thoughts. If you haven't heard of DankPods, check him out. His a really funny guy that does audiophile stuff without being a snob about it, he's also a musician so it's safe to assume that he knows what he's talking about.
