Cork punters will need booster to enjoy a pint in a pub as an additional 23,817 Covid cases are confirmed

7 Jan

Leesiders who want to grab a pint in a bar or have a bite to eat in a restaurant will have to provide confirmation of a booster vaccine, according to the Taoiseach.

Mr Martin indicated that being triple vaccinated will be a requirement for enjoying an active social life.

"In the fullness of time, yes," the Taoiseach answered when asked if people will be required to have a booster to enter bars or restaurants.

He also said new Digital Covid Certs will be issued in order for people to proof that they have received a booster jab.

The rollout of the booster has been very efficient and jabs for over 16s are now available at Cork City Hall, where long queues were seen throughout the day today.

The full booster schedule - according to the HSE Website - for Cork City Hall is:

Booster walk-in clinics people aged 16-29

Booster walk-in clinics, 30 years and older

Booster walk-ins for healthcare workers

The Taoiseach's comments comes on the same day NPHET has decided against recommending any new restrictions.

And the Department of Health has today been notified of 23,817 confirmed cases of Covid-19, with 941 Covid-19 patients hospitalised, of which 90 are in ICU.

This is the largest number of positive Covid cases since the beginning of the pandemic.
