Gemini style is indeed to separate presentation from content. How could be ever more separated than delegating the presentation to the client? This has indeed many benefits: among them that the user can choose the client of their liking or to configure it in their own way. The only disadvantage I can see is that it limits the author on how they can present their presentations. As more of us are both readers and writers or users and "content-creators" this is something we can all feel.
Jon on his capsule ---see below--- reminds us of that small frustation of not being able to do our own thing presentation wise. Indeed, that personal touch was one of the charms of the early web that, lost for ever, we so dearly miss. Personally, I invested quite long hours on learning enough CSS so to make my websites simple enough, presentation wise. I can not do things "just as I like them to be on Gemini". But gemini already provides 99% of the things I wanted to do: simple, fast, readable, clear, not obfuscated, honest in a way.
And if I really wanted things my way I could write my own client. And maybe, I will.
