On Paragraphs ============= I've noticed that every once in a while, I come across a gemini user who doesn't seem to organize their writing into paragraphs. So I click on a gemlog entry and get assaulted by the proverbial 16:9 wall of text, stretching from one end of the screen to the other. This happens on gopher as well, but at least the lines tend to be 72 columns or less. In any case, that's where I stop reading. It doesn't matter who the gemlog (or phlog) belongs to. I just can't do it and I doubt I'm alone in that reaction. If the writer doesn't take the time to organize the material into comprehensible sections, I'm not going to try to wade through it. It's mentally painful to look at and difficult to maintain your position as you read. So use paragraphs people. They were invented for a reason! ===================== I've been following Solene[1] and sparcipx's[2] adventures in old computing. Many of the issues that Solene raised are reminders that the good old days of computing weren't always so good! For me, affordable high-quality screens have been the nicest improvement over time. A matte IPS makes me much happier than my old TN panel with its narrow viewing angles. The top of the screen could be viewable while the bottom was out of plane and "shadow-bluing" out. I don't miss that at all. ===================== We got gigabit internet service the other day. I'm so disappointed. Smolnet performance hasn't improved at all.
