href="#copyright">Copyright</a> - Your <a

Music</h3>

<h3>The <a name="archive">sheet music archive</a></h3>

<p>The Sheet Music Archive is part of the <a
href="http://icking-music-archive.sunsite.dk/">Werner Icking Music
Archive</a> archive. It contains ready-to-print sheet music, most in the
form of <a href="#acrobat">PDF</a> files (indicated by the icon <img
src="../pdf.gif" border="0" alt="PDF">). A few scores are only available in
compressed <a href="#print">Postscript</a> format (indicated by the icon <img
src="../gs.gif" border="0" alt="postscript">).</p>

<p>The main index is the list of composer names on the homepage. Each name
is linked to a separate page listing and linking to that composer's available
works. On the composer's page, clicking on his name (printed in <strong><a
href="ftp://sunsite.dk/projects/icking-music-archive/web/scores/">Bold</a></strong>)
will lead to a navigable file listing of the directory. This would not
normally be necessary, but it would enable you to see the size of the files
before downloading, and would occasionally give access to supplemental files
not mentioned in the composer's page, e.g. brief README files concerning the
composer or composition.</p>

<p>Most links to scores in the composer's page are followed by the icon <img
src="../img.gif" width="14" height="11" alt="image">. If you click on that
icon usually the <strong>first</strong> page of the score containing music is
shown as a graphic image. For some browsers this is done in a new window
which is reused for the next image. The resolution of these images is always
inferior to that of the PDF and Postscript files; they are only for quick
viewing and are not meant for printing. <img src="../info.gif" width="9"
height="12" alt="info"> leads you to additional information. <img
src="../snd.gif" width="20" height="13" alt="sound"> points at MIDI-files or
other sound files.</p>

<p>For most works the email address of the composer or editor is given. Use
this address for any feedback, praise, criticism, blame, etc., and to inquire
regarding permission for public performance of the modern works.</p>
<!-- <p>Either go (back) to the <a href="../index.html">main page</a> or click the
name of the composer or editor in the <a
href="../index.html#instr_music">instrumental</a> or <a
href="../index.html#voc_music">vocal</a> music sections.</p> -->

<h3><a name="copyright">The copyright of the archive</a></h3>

<p>The archive contains "free" sheet music, free for non-commercial usage.
This means that you may download the files for viewing or printing as paper
copies, which may not be sold. It does not mean, however, that you may
distribute digital copies of these editions in the given format or any other
converted format. The right to print the music does not imply the right for
public performances if the music is not already in the public domain. Please
contact the composers concerning the conditions for public performance.</p>

<h3><a name="contribution">Your contribution to the archive</a></h3>

<p>To add some stuff to this section, you need to upload it to the incoming
directory of the Werner Icking Music Archive, and inform the archive editor
about your upload. To upload it, depending on your browser type you may be
able simply to point your browser to <a
href="ftp://mutex-anon@upload.sunsite.dk/">ftp://mutex-anon@upload.sunsite.dk/</a>.
When prompted for a password, enter <em><strong>mutex</strong></em>. If that
doesn't work, try connecting to <em>upload.sunsite.dk</em> with an ftp client
using the username <em><strong>mutex-anon</strong></em> and the password
<em><strong>mutex</strong></em>. After uploading, inform the archive editor
of your upload by sending an e-mail to <a
href="mailto:scancm@biobase.dk">Christian Mondrup</a>. PDF is now the primary
format of ready-for-print sheet music on the archive, although other file
formats will be accepted. The page layout of your scores should be set to
<em>US-letter</em> size in order to make them fit on both American
<em>letter</em> (8.5" x 11") and European <em>A4</em> (210mm x 297mm) paper.
Contributors are encouraged to upload their source files used for typesetting
along with the final score in which case the source will be made available to
web guests, but that is definitely <strong>not</strong> a requirement for
contributing to the archive.</p>

<h3><a name="print">How to print the music</a></h3>

<p>PDF files can be displayed on screen and sent to printer by means of the
freeware programme from Adobe, <a
href="http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/alternate.html" target="_blank"
name="acrobat">Adobe Acrobat Reader</a>. Postscript files must be
uncompressed for printing using <a
href="ftp://sunsite.dk/projects/icking-music-archive/web/gzip124.zip">GZIP</a>
unless you'e using newer versions of <a
href="http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/index.html">Ghostscript, Ghostview &amp;
GSview</a>. There is an easy-to-install WIN9x/NT-version consisting of <a
href="ftp://sunsite.dk/projects/icking-music-archive/web/gs650w32.exe">Ghostscript</a>
and <a
href="ftp://sunsite.dk/projects/icking-music-archive/web/gsv29w32.exe">GSview</a>
on our server.</p>
<!-- <h3><a name="A4letter">Printing A4 Postscript </a><a name="A4letter1">files
on letter size paper</a></h3>

<p>Postscript-files in this archive are often generated for A4-size paper
(210mm x 297mm). You may print them nevertheless on letter-size paper (8.5" x
11") by inserting the following lines into the ps-files at a convenient place
:-). That may be just after "%%EndSetup" and before "%%Page: 1 1" or may be
just after the 1st line.</p>
<pre>%%-----------------------------------------------------------------snip------/GMD_realshowpage /showpage load def
/GMD_myshowpage { GMD_realshowpage 0.94 0.94 scale 26 50 translate } bind def
/showpage { GMD_myshowpage } bind def
0.94 0.94 scale 26 50 translate
%%-----------------------------------------------------------------snip------</pre>
<ul>
<li>0.94/0.94 scales ("magnifies") the page in horizontal and vertical
direction</li>
<li>26/50 moves the page in horizontal and vertical direction by 26 resp.
50 units (of 1/72 inch).</li>
<li>You may need different factors (e.g. 0.95 0.95) or shifts (e.g. 14 49).
But if you change them, change <strong>both</strong> occurances, the
first for all pages but the first, the second for the first page.</li>
<li>The given settings move the page origin - the lower left corner - up by
18 mm (297mm-11") or 50 units. They shrink the page with factor 0.94
(11"/297mm). The page origin is moved to the right by 9.25mm
((8.5"-(210mm*0.94))/2) or 26 units.</li>
</ul>
You may experiment with a <a
href="./mozart/kv423+4/testpage.ps.gz">testpage</a>.

<p><a href="fnachbaur@netscape.net">Fred Nachbaur</a> found another
solution, "which might be easier for people who don't like to edit PS files.
Load the file into GSview as usual, set Media to A4 if not already. Print to
file, using pdfwrite driver, give it .pdf file extension. Load the PDF file
into <a href="http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/alternate.html"
target="_blank">Adobe Acrobat Reader</a>, and use it's "Shrink to Fit Page"
option. Works great!"</p> -->
