Superflight

2021-07-08

Superflight is a simple little game I've gotten back into the past few days. The idea is simple: fly around in a wingsuit through procedurally generated dreamlike landscapes gathering as many points until you inevitably splatter against a wall. It's a fantastic little timewaster, giving something to do while listening to a podcast or some chill music.

Points are awarded for dangerous stunts like flying close to walls and through dangerous passages. But I prefer to turn on zen mode which hides all HUD elements and point indicators until the run is over.

The aerodynamics do a good job of feeling realistic. It really helps sell the idea of flying through massive landscapes at high speeds and it's fun to perform nose dives or the occasional stall.

Each map is unique and, like I said, is procedurally generated. You'll occasionally fly by portals in the air that can teleport you to another level, or if you lose enough elevation you'll fade to white and be transported to another level that way. After a while of playing you'll start to pick up on a lot of the level generator's patterns, but each new level still brings a somewhat unique experience with its own routes to explore and sights to see.

When you crash, you'll start the current level over from the start. I sometimes find myself exploring, trying to find the most dangerous routes and slowly perfecting them through repeated attempts. Other times I'm just a tourist, leisurely gliding through the landscape just to take in the sights and spending no more than a minute on each level.

Definitely give Superflight a look if any of this sounds interesting! I picked it up for just a few dollars on Steam a little while back and have been having a great time turning my brain off with it since.
