A Beginning

I've never been good at habits...

And that's really an excuse. It's not a reason. It's a cop-out.

I'm autistic; that's not an excuse to be an asshole. (I don't use it as one)...

But it holds true to the above. I know that I have a substantial number of

signs pointing me to ADHD, I know that. I also know that if I don't start

trying to get my shit together now, with or without medication, I won't be

able to get it together ever.

I'm slipping.

So I'm trying. I'm going to keep this gemlog, or try to. I'm using apps to

track my habits and my needs. Next... I need to find some people to help

keep me accountable. I need some accountipality (lol). But that comes with

time, and having people who can do that.

I'm starting small. It's November 29th 2021, the only habit I want to develop

is that by December 31st 2021 I want to walk my walking trail every day.

It's a fairly short trail (about 1/4 mile). When the pandemic hit I realized

that I needed to get shit together, so my spouse and kiddos and I bought a

farm. It's a real farm. We hydroponically grow vegetables. We have bees making

honey, some dairy goats, some egg-chickens. We're doing OK. But we also cut

this trail.

My spouse is an ecologist. She's pretty badass about everything she does but

when it comes to ecology and naturalism, she's even more so. She's got this

plan to restore our lot, and (non-native honeybees aside... she'd want me

to say that) make it a local natural paradise to attract wildlife and become

a more sustainable plot.

I love the idea, both of having the wildlife to watch, and of the concept of

being able to grow native foods, and trees. To have my own sustainable forest

for our woodstove, and building projects. Being able to take a hike through

our impending nature reserve sounds more and more appealing to me. The problem

is that I'm out of shape. It's partially because of a medical condition, this

is true, but I also know how to work out in spite of my condition... I just

don't.

So my goal is to get back to being in reasonable shape. To start with that

I'm going to hike my trail more often.

So for the first two weeks I'm going to hike 1 lap a day, M/W/F

The second two weeks, I'm going to hike 1 lap each day, with 2 on M/W/F

This, I hope, will be enough to establish the beginnings of a pattern. I will

be starting this the second week of December this year, and will, thus be on

week three by the end of the month.

Starting next week, I'll do my daily blog with a tracker of what habits I am

keeping up with.

I've got to get myself back together, so I can get everything back together.
