Terminal Apps

I have been trying more and more to avoid graphical applications and to live in the Terminal. Some of the reasons I like using Terminal:

• I like the active, versus passive, nature of using the Terminal to operate my computer.
• When using the Internet, the Terminal is faster, and uses a lot less bandwidth.
• There is less visual noise. I can concentrate more on what I'm doing. It helps provide focus.

Below are some the Terminal based apps that I use. If anyone knows of any Terminal software for reading a forum (ex. a Discourse-based forum) let me know! My email is at the bottom.

I use lynx to view websites and gopher holes. It is *okay* at websites, depending on how much garbage is in them. But it is great at browsing gopher :)

My tool for using Mastodon. toot tui provides a nice interactive interface, if you need it. I usually use toot timeline

Great for just getting the text of wikipedia artilces. My usage is usually: wikipedia2text "search term" > outfile.txt, and which point I can read the file using more or emacs or whatever I want.

Pull the webpage and read it later! You can pull webpages, images, audio files, anything you can put it at.
