Our house has been equiped with a FTTH connexion today.
Our ADSL had low bandwith as we are far (several km) from the connection
point. The peak download speed was 500kB/s and the peak upload speed was
about 160 kB/s.
Except for huge updates / installations of OS, it was ok for mail and a
little web browsing (and perfect for gopher / gemini).
The problem has been the covid situation. It was not possible to make
three video conference calls (working for home for one, teaching from
home for the second, and school from home for the last ones).
Ather the installation it took 21 seconds to download a 500MB update.
I just find this network speed (300Mb/s down 200 Mb/s up) completely
insane for personal use. It is so fast to download an ISO multiple times
instead of storing it on a HD... It does not feel very environmental
friendly.
Hope my behavior will not change for worse...
