Wednesday is a working from home day but today my daily bike ride took me to work for our Christmas party barbecue... and what a cold grey drizzly day it was
Riding upstream along the Scotchmans creek bike path between the Monash freeway and Stephensons road I caught a glimpse of one or some large black birds in the bushes to my right and another on the other side of the path on my left, only about 2m off the ground. I wasn't really looking and assumed they were ravens or currawongs. As I passed they all flew out of the bush and parallel with me, the bike path is the main open space through the trees. A quick mental Whoa! and a smile as I realised that they weren't currawongs, two or three Yellow-tailed black cockatoos[1] just about keeping station one each side of me at head height as I rode along, before they climbed away and into some higher branches, creakily calling to each other
