The past week has been quite exciting for me. It seems like a whole bunch of nice things and good news decided to band together for a concentrated assault and I'm definitely not complaining.
First of all, my first week of playing around with Gemini and the Small Internet has been a fantastic experience so far. I've been checking Spacewalk and CAPCOM basically every day along with the known servers lists and just taken in all the weird and wonderful content and it's been a blast.
My Gemini experience has also been surprisingly interactive. This gemlog was very quickly picked up by Spacewalk without me even getting in contact about adding it. Almost instantly after I put up an atom feed I was also contacted by solderpunk via email about adding my stuff on CAPCOM and we had a short but nice conversation. And to top it off, the developer of Elpher[1] got in touch with me over email as well about some complaints I had written on my WWW blog and was extremely quick to solve my problems with the client. Honestly, I don't remember a time when I've had this much discussion going on via email.
All in all, the Geminispace has been surprisingly welcoming and it's been absolutely wonderful. I'm basically a nobody who just decided to set up a server because Gemini seemed cool but I already feel like I'm part of a community.
The good news don't end there though! I received even more email, this time from my university. Apparently my bachelor's thesis on open source project life-cycle and survival got approved and received a perfect 5/5 grade! Sadly for now I cannot really share it because it would need to be translated into a more generally understood language first, but I'll probably get on that at some point.
The government also decided to hop on the stream of good news and relaxed some of the COVID-19 restrictions, allowing people to meet their 70+ yo. relatives outside from a safe distance. So, we went and visited my grandparents. A breath of normalcy in our otherwise unusual times.
So yeah, this week has been awesome! Probably going to treat myself to some DOOM later tonight to celebrate it.
