For today just a first impressions on the anime I / we currently watch. These impressions may still change over time, of course, as the shows progress.
An ultra-sweet, slow show around a young high-school student, Koguma. Koguma lives a lonely, uneventful life in Hokuto in the hilly Japanese country-side prefecture of Yamanashi, about 70km north-west of Mount Fuji. Her existence changes one day when, bored with having to pedal up and down on her way to school, she decides to get herself a small used motorcycle, a Honda Super Cub. With each trip Koguma's horizon starts to grow... Beautiful pictures of the stunning Japanese countryside. If only not every second word were Super Cub... which at times mars the gorgeous atmosphere with the vibe of a cheap commercial.
A series targeted at 14something teenage boys, with the humour to match. Still, the show maintains a level of charm by making the hero team up with a likeable misfits to defend the kingdom.
Of all the anime, this science-fiction story seems the hardest to gauge. It is the story of two AIs, the artificial idol Vivy and Matsumoto, an AI sent from the future to prevent a catastrophic clash between AIs and humanity 100 years down the line.
For now I'll keep my options open, but Vivy may well turn out to be the most interesting show of this season.
Your archetypal Shōjo / Josei, this anime follows Sei's surprise convocation from her unremarkable life as a single office worker in Japan into a fantasy world. To everybody's surprise she arrives together with another Japanese girl, who's immediately recognised by the crown prince as "the Saint", the one who's supposed to save the world from the encroaching attack of scary monsters. Sei's more or less ignored and finds her way into a nearby research institute which prepared healing potions. Just that her potions are immediately much more potent than anybody else's...
Soon her potions save the life of Albert, the gorgeous looking, sweet, noble, and ultra-chivalrous captain of the Third Order of the Knights of the Kingdom of Salutania. Now, I haven't read the underlying manga and don't intend to, but I'll risk a guess on how this is going to develop...
And Sei's powers keep growing.
A Good night in the Demon King's castle is all that Syalis, the eponymous princess, wishes for after the Demon king had kidnapped her. Just that it's soon no longer clear who's running the show in Demon Castle... Syalis or the Demon king. However, certainly not the noble, but decidedly brain-limited hero that her father sends to rescue her.
This is the perfect show to see with kids... about princesses who don't need anybody to save them.
