acdw noticed me advocating content over presentation in Gemini
I'll freely admit, though, that the reason I love it is that I've /long/ had a habit of futzing around. In some ways that's been great for me:
Plenty of us learn things this way, but sometimes we don't also learn when it's time to call something "good enough" and live with its subsequent imperfections. Part of it's also around trying to make useful choices about /what/ to spend time fiddling with. One of the things I enjoyed about using a Mac in the 2000s & 2010s was that it took away a lot of that desktop-environment futzing that I'd lose myself in with other Unix systems. So while I used some earlier weeks in our lockdown period to start reassembling my self-hosted life, I wrestled with Hugo for my new static site (link below) and wondered "is this it?" Creativity comes from constraints, and all that. My guilty secret, though, is that as part of my recent excursion into Gemini-space, I've also sunk hours into highly polishing my turd of an Emacs config so that it's /really shiny/ now (why had I never noticed "use-package-report" before?), and a bit more terminal-friendly (to the point that I have 24-bit colour working, which is completely and utterly unnecessary, and I should be ashamed of myself).
So there's more to read over here...
...but for now I'm writing different content in each place. We'll see how long I can hold out before I go for some dual-protocol service as per Alex and others.
