Recently there's been some posts about one's taste in music changing when they get older. I'm not sure if that has happened to me, but it's true that a lot of stuff I used to listen to I don't listen to anymore. One reason for that seems to be that I've just heard it so many times that maybe it stopped being interesting, so perhaps I sitll like the style/genre, but just need more variety. When I was young I used to like rock and oldies, and a lot of what I still listen to is probably still considered rock or at least influenced by it.
One of the main things that changed for me in later years is that I just listen to music less than I used to, and I began listening to music from other countries and in other languages, so for example years ago I never listened to Tajik folk-inspired pop, but now I do. In the same vain, I listen to Coke Studio a lot, which encompasses some genres like South Asian folk/rock/jazz and devotional music like qawwali. I'm always looking for interesting melodies, rhythms, and good vocal performances, although I used to not care for vocals much when I was younger.
I think people tend to like the musical profile that they like, and probably some fundamental aspects of their taste won't change much helps them explore new things over time that would appeal to them.
