Midnight Pub

the times, they are a changin'

~tffb

I just got over a small fever from my second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, and I was not/am not complaining one bit. I am lucky to live in a world where medical science was able to react quick enough to DEVELOP a vaccine, and we didn't have to "tough it out" like we did with the 1918 pandemic. A year ago, I thought a vaccine would never arrive (when I was at the tail-end of my first (of three) 40 day quarantine(s)).

But other things have changed (with me), too. I took up "serious" web dev projects in the past year (some scrapped, some renewed, none complete), I switched blogging platforms from Write.as to Blot.im (where I am writing daily, of course), and the family has welcomed in a new member, with my Great Nephew ("Baby N"). So, life seems to be OK at the moment.

Anyway, how are The Midnight patrons hanging in there? Everyone OK, not OK, just so-so? Just curious. But I hope you're all well :)

We have both been vaccinated and reached the point of efficacy. We are slowly inching our noses out the door but still with masks and other precautions...

Doing OK myself, I changed my perspective on life a couple years ago now. I have found that diversifying my hobbies has allowed much more disconnected time. Some hobbies to look into that will keep you off the Wild West Webz are astronomy, hiking, metal machining, ham radio and listening to vinyl. I found that dabbling a little bit in everything seems to work better than becoming obsessive about just one hobby. Rotating through my hobbies as the seasons change seems to help keep them "fresh".

The timing of your post is interesting because I've just been dealing with this myself. I'm doing pretty okay but mainly because I'm studying full time, so I don't really have much contact with the "business" world in a sense. My partner isn't so lucky though, the market has become far more difficult to work with. He's also reporting that other people in the office and industry don't seem to be doing that well too. I don't know if it's all down to Covid, but it feels like there's this fog that's settled into our bones, the way we relate to people, the way we view things.

But it's not all bad, I'm glad you have a optimistic outlook on things, some of my friends are sharing positive stories too. Thank you for sharing, and for asking :)

Hopefully in the long run, we'll look back at this time and see how we've grown from this!
