Wind Visualized

Our atmosphere in motion has been abstracted to weather maps with highs and lows, as if they cause the motion, not the other way around. Weather scientists recognized the forces as a vector field and rendered that with zillions of little arrows. When these were allowed to move (with the wind) a new and excellent visualization emerged.

Fernanda Viégas and Martin Wattenberg made a name for themselves by taking the arrowheads off of the vectors and giving the beautiful result wide distribution. page
