Had a stack of very strange dreams the past few days. Been
playing the latest Monster Hunter and taking it easy.
At a gas station when the gentleman at the other pump came
over and explained how ridiculous it was that he got a
ticket for expired tags while the city lets stacks of
chopped up bikes and abandoned cars be. "I once knew a
girl out in Oregon-- you wake up each day and see a
mountain lion. I had to come back here and let me tell
you, this ain't livin'" Well said and truly reaffirms my
decision to leave the Bay Area. This evening I set up
a Blaseball account, rooting for the Ohio Worms
Had a great casual conversation with a new hire from
Atlanta who turned me on to Datafruits
The tunes are so good. My friend made a Ruby implementation
for TIC-80 for fun so maybe I'll make a little game in
that.
Made some really good progress on the Nullbrook rewrite and
I may soon be approaching a deployable state. It's missing
a lot of the features that are in the old site, but I
think it's replacing them with much better ones. All the
while I was listening to 131 minutes of Old Town Road
mashups from Portlands Most Unwanted on spaz.radio. My
Balmer Peak is one beer and then fighting the desire to
sleep long enough for my productivity drive to kick in.
Whoa, Django sends emails when there's an exception on the
web server? That's so nifty! In other news, our Prius gave
out at last so we've had to say so long to a friend who was
about as much trouble as they were worth.
Took a walk down Broadway this evening. You wouldn't know
there was a protest going on. Raucous Friday night that
feels pre-covid. Rollerskaters listening to funk in
Mosswood Park. I walked past a Walgreens boarding up but
no one else really seemed to mind. dump1080 only reporting
a single helicopter in the sky making a corkscrew up
Broadway-- the same route I took an hour earlier.
Played a game of Monster Prom with my friend and I ended
up with a flawless success in asking out the drug-addicted
ghost lady while my friend failed. Deployed the new version
of Nullbrook just in time to move and have it down for a
week or more. Read a piece in Laphams Quaterly by Antoine
de Saint-Exupery that included:
"There is an ancient myth about the image asleep in the
block of marble until it is carefully disengaged by the
sculptor. The scupltor must himself feel that he is not
so much inventing the curve of breast as delivering the
image from its prison. In this spirit do engineers,
physicists concerned with thermodynamics, and the swarm
of preoccupied draftsmen tackle their work."
Spent most of the day packing and playing Rimworld. I've
found that packing things does allow me to focus on the
few things that have been left unpacked. Perhaps there's
something to this whole minimalism thing after all.
Someone was trying to break into Nullbrook using a
Laravel hack, androxgh0st:
Laravel debug leaking secrets [HTTPS]
Words cannot express how overjoyed I am to have moved into
our new home.
Went to downtown Nevada City with my mother and then Empire
Mine State Park with my father. Both were fun. Empire Mine
is a phenomenally beautiful park-- I spent much more time
in the elaborate and fancy gardens than I did in the
actual mine area. Putzed around in the garden a bit to
plant some pumpkins. Hope they turn out alright.
Finally got my server to work with the mikrotik router but
Nullbrook is still down for some reason. Not allowed to
fret about that too much.
