Earlier tonight we checked the weather and the forecast is for four days with lows below freezing - and snow tomorrow! My wife, youngest daughter, and I sprang into action. They picked the vegetables as I transported the dozens of pots of herbs into the house. We were waiting until the last minute because the tomatoes especially were not ready yet. The green ones were placed in a paper sack in the pantry.
We are planning on making salsa, and some fried green tomatoes (we have never tried them before, but a lot of people like them, so we are going to make a batch). The herbs are going to winter in the house, and the loss of our vegies is a lesson to plant sooner next year.
