My current gaming obsession is Polytopia from Midjiwan, a Swedish software company.

I played it initially and thought it seemed like a simplified "civ" type game. Which it is, but by simplified, it's not simple.

The game is free, but you can pay for several new tribes, each with their own differences.

You start the game with a small city with one warrior (usually). The graphics are bright and fun. The world is pleasing to the eye. You can only see areas you have previously visited, so you must explore. You can move your warrior, you can improve your village. It's turn-based. You gain a number of resource points each turn and you use them to upgrade your city, research new technology or create more military units.

You find many new, empty cities that you can take over. The more you find, the more resource points you get, also upgrading them gives you more points each time. The overall aim is to find your enemies and kill them off and take over their cities. Unlike Civ, which has peace treaties, there is no such niceness. Kill or be killed.

You can play single player or you can play multiplayer. Multiplayer can be pass phone person to person so everyone gets a turn or online.

The main problem I find is that certain, paid for, tribes seem significantly better. So in some ways it's a pay to win game.
