As my desire to use the Internet wanes more and more by the day,I found myself recently using the browser Lynx to browse the web.
Lynx is a text-based browser which displays both http and gopher pages alike. I've found a few good text-only websites with links to other text-only sites, including current news sites. Spending time browsing these sites has been a bit of fun, especially since I have found some really old USENET posts dating back to the mid 1980s. Those were very interesting to read including one about making viruses and the potential to infect large corporations, governments and whatnot. Someone back then wrote that it would be nearly impossible because those people make sure their systems are super secure. Wow. How wrong they were. Despite their best efforts, nothing is secure.
Anyway, using Lynx really brings me back to the early days of the Internet and remembering what it was like to browse things back then. I set my start page to a text-only aggregate page of news, blog and other misc sites which gives me a great starting point to surf around for anything new or interesting to read.
