This may be me and my OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) pickiness but I cannot stand slobs. I just returned home from the gym this evening after a fabulous day at an Independence Day BBQ with family and friends. Now today is Saturday and there is no staff at the gym on weekends. My gym is an Anytime Fitness gym in which it's members have a pass key to allow them access 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
So I go in this evening and there are a few people there and the gym staff usually always leaves the stereo on at a low volume. Well some guy had turned the station from the gym's default one to something else and had it cranked so loud that I could hardly hear my own music in my ear buds. Granted I don't mind loud music when it's my music and I'm in my vehicle or at home. I surely would never play my music that loud in a public place. That's quite rude to be blasting music like that. In all likelihood, most people probably don't like the music that is being played and especially don't like it drowning out all other sound in the gym. Even if I liked the music this guy was blasting, I wouldn't have liked it as loud as he had it.
Thankfully, by the time I was about 6 or 7 minutes into the elliptical workout, he had turned it back the way the gym staff keep it and he left. Whew! I was getting aggravated pretty quickly with the noise.
Now on to the slobs.
Again this may just be my OCD here, but it bugs me when people leave trash all over the place. In the gym as I walk around on the weekends, I find myself picking up paper towels and abandoned water bottles and putting them in the trash bins located all around the gym. In the restrooms (my gym has 3) I ended up flushing the toilets in 2 of them when I walked in because people left their disgusting urine and paper towels in them. I've picked up paper towels that were on the floor literally inches from the trash bin.
I mean really. Is it so difficult to pick up after yourself and put things where they belong? If you toss some trash toward the bin and miss, why can't you pick it up and get it in there? Don't say you're too lazy or tired because you're in the freaking gym for crying out loud! You're there to exercise, so exercise some respect for the other members and the staff and clean up after yourself.
Next, this isn't as big a deal as the trash on the floor, but I ended up going around and turning the TV's off on the ellipticals and treadmills. After all, I was the only one in the gym at this point and I figure why not save the gym a few dollars in electricity. I also went around and picked up the loose free weights on the floor and the ones left on barbells and put them back on the rungs equally and in order. I did this in between sets while I rested!
Maybe you think I am crazy for doing all of that, but I feel that if you think that, you're probably one of the nasty slobs I was cleaning up after!
