Pikkulog

A shorter gemlog for rambly things. Inspired by solderpunk's pikkulog, in turn inspired by shufei's weiphlog.

It's strange to think that the pandemic might end, now that vaccines are slowly being rolled out. It'll take a long while before most of us have been vaccinated, and there are still other questions that haven't been answered (like whether those who are vaccinated remain infectious) but the main thing is that the pandemic has gone on for long enough that it's hard to picture a return to normalcy. This odd pause has become normal.

The one thing I'm looking forward to about the end of the pandemic is the prospect of having travel reopen. Not just for tourism, though I do miss travel, but also to be able to visit close friends now living away from home.

Since I'm not far north or south enough this year for there to be snow, December has meant the smell of rain and the warmth of a mug of tea.

And just like that it's December. The malls and shops are all playing Christmas music and the decorations are still up, even if they're more subdued. One of the retailer associations here mentioned that the usual lights they would put up have been reduced due to budget issues - after all, given everything going on...

I don't really mind this, since to me Christmas and the entirety of Dec has always felt more reflective than festive. It's always felt like a quiet time to rest and to spend time with family and think back on the year, and that's how I intend to spend it this year as well. At least, I want to do so; but work looks like it may interfere. So it goes.
