Hello Geminisphere, I am Rose. I am new to Mansfield althought not new to Gemini and the small internet. I have been part of the computing world since the early 90s. I have seen the internet grow from a simple, small internet to the behemoth it has become. Unfortunately, the http monster is disgustingly too bloated with spyware, malware, governmental intrusions and it isn't where I want to be. So, when the pandemic hit and made life impossible to enjoy last year, I discovered the old but still living protocol named Gopher. I tried it but as soon as things got a little better with the pandemic I was more active and eventually abandoned the whole notion of Gopher and the small web.
So I went on with the over bloated spy monster the http monster has become. I kept coding and building websites as if nothing was wrong but there was plenty wrong with the "normie" web as I began to call it. I was becoming more and more disillusioned with the whole notion of the "web" but I didn't see any sunshine at the end of the proverbial tunnel. After a while I started to see a lot of sites and such on something called the "decnetralized web" and that at first caught my attention. I researched it extensively but came to the conclusion that I would need an enormous amount of brain power just to impliment. I am not a programmer and therefore I wished for something more simple to not only impliment but to code as well but that for me was wishful thinking until one day, on youtube I saw a video that would embark me on a journey through the geminisphere in all its beautiful simplicity.
Then there was a chance mention of a video on youtube that caught my attention. I follow a man named Distro Tube. He is very much into the small web so he did a video on. I watched intently and once it was all said and done I was hooked. I started to look around for the clients mentioned, I downloaded Amfora and Lagrange and began roaming around the geminispace wontoningly and began to find a very interesting place.
I discovered many capsules(in gemini the websites are called capsules) that offered free and private server space so I signed a few of them. I have gemlogs(gemini version of a blog) on three such servers:
and of course now on here. I want to thank everyone who so generously give of their resources to the greater small internet community, without you all those of us without the know how or finances wouldn't be able to go on the small web. I do appreciate it.
