Recently, I got a free CRT television from a very nice neighbour to play my retro consoles on. I have mostly been keeping up with my Japanese Doubutsu No Mori (The original Animal Crossing) town. I decided to play some Playstation 2 however, and figured I'd pick up a game called Fate/Unlimited Codes, a fighter based on the Fate/Stay Night series. In that moment, I opened up Pandora's box on myself.
You see, I had dropped this game some time ago. It is probably one of the only games I regret importing for the PS2, which stings since it is a game from my favourite franchise, Fate. But let me tell you... if you think you have seen fighting game AI bullshit before, you NEED to play this game. At first, I was stuck on the first of 2 story mode bosses. No biggie, with enough practice....I still failed, even months later. I kept trying again and again out of frustration and I wound up getting lucky and killing berserker with a combo before he could somehow break my combo and corner trap me like usual. Great! Now I can surely finish the story! Wrong.
The final boss is of course King Gilgamesh, except the bullshit meter was at an all time high. It is nearly impossible to hit him, even after hours I only managed to get him into yellow health one time. I decided to look up some YouTube guides for help on this 14 or so year old game, and even in the speedruns, Gilgamesh caused people to choke into a full length fight, it was insane. For the time being, I suck too much, and don't feel like taking my rage too far over a Playstation 2 game, so I'll just probably not bother with the game anymore. It is a harsh reality to accept, but sometimes, you just can't win.
