For day hikes, long walks, backpacking excursions, and meandery days, I love carrying my portable stove and having the ability to whip up a cup of tea, or a bowl of soup wherever I happen to be.
My current stove of choice is the MSR PocketRocket 2. It screws on the top of those fuel canisters. It boils water quickly. It folds up into a tiny storage case (which incidentally has just enough free space for a mini-Bic lighter).

Previously, I was a huge fan of the Cat Food Can Stove and would carry that and a small Nalgene bottle of fuel. Liquid fuel is lovely (as opposed to canisters) because you can actually tell how much fuel is left and ration accordingly. You also don't end up with a garage full of mostly used up canisters. Unfortunately, it's a slow stove and it turns out I'm to impatient to wait 15 minutes for my morning coffee :)

I'll often store the burner, a couple tea bags, some instant soup, etc. in a GSI Halulite Minimalist II. This pot is a great size and includes a nice neoprene sleve for comfortably holding the pot when using it as a mug.

This is really a great knife. It's comfortable to hold. Comes incredibly sharp. Holds an edge nicely. It's cheap enough I don't feel bad using and misusing it.
The sheath is hard plastic so I feel comfortable tossing this knife into my day pack. It comes almost everywhere with me and is often the knife I use for food prep when hiking/cooking. I really appreciate how easy it is to clean this knife and the sheath.
