Cork’s Nano Nagle Place wins prestigious European Museum of the Year Award

04 Dec

Over 250 years ago Nano Nagle opened her first Catholic school for Leeside girls at a time when it was illegal. Now, centuries later, The Council of Europe has awarded the museum in her honor the top spot as Museum of the Year. The charity-run Nano Nagle museum was awarded the coveted prize on December 3 after being judged to have made “a significant contribution to the understanding of European cultural heritage, the promotion of respect for human rights and democracy.” The Douglas Street museum is a gem of ‘hidden Cork,’ commemorating the work of Cork woman Nano Nagle.
