There's a prototype of a new Threads feature on GUS. It's only getting updated once every day or two while being developed, so not nearly as useful as other methods of finding new content in Geminispace, but nevertheless still a fun little exploration of a different sort of UX for doing so.
I think most of the bugs are worked out. The main remaining thing to fix is automagical handling of redirects. GUS already knows all the full redirect chains, so it's just a matter of some more logic to resolve them while building the threads.
Once that's done I can, as with all things GUS, spend time making the process to build the threads incremental and idempotent. And then perhaps update it on a more frequent cadence, if anyone enjoys using it.
Continuing my interest in OLDNET (can this be a term too? there's so much interesting internet and engineering stuff being eclipsed by the shiny, new stuff), I've been reading about Usenet. Today I found out there's actual Usenet at news.tilde.club, so I tried pointing gnus, inside of Emacs, at it. This is really surreal to see recent content in here. It feels like someone combined email and reddit. Weird.

I learned that the 418 "I'm a teapot" status code is also accompanied by its own extension to HTTP called HTCPCP (Hyper Text Coffee Pot Control Protocol). All this time I thought it was just the status code! The protocol extension was apparently intended to be satirical, and to demonstrate "many of the ways in which HTTP has been extended inappropriately" over the years. Quite topical for Gemini, and now I wonder what Larry Masinter would think of the project? :P
I always thought I liked cold brew coffee, but not iced coffee. I always thought iced coffee was really bitter. Yesterday we decided to try making some iced coffee at home, so we knew we were actually evaluating iced coffee made made with good, fresh beans and a good brewing method (Aeropress, my current favorite brewing method!). It was so good!! Now I think I've just had the misfortune of only ever having bought really bad iced coffee in the past. Time to start making batches of iced coffee at home for this summer!
I just spent a few minutes actually getting TRAMP to work in Emacs to edit this content on the remote envs server. This is really cool. Now I get all of my bespoke Emacs configuration, since I'm using my local Emacs, but I can edit the files on a remote machine. Magical. Also I can't believe Dired also works - browsing directories feels equally magical. Emacs is so neat.
Just created this pikkulog! Thanks to solderpunk and shufei for the inspiration, for this neat, lightweight way to publish content in Geminispace.
